Words can be beautiful but

Is there anything more beautiful than a blank page?

White, crisp, clean,

Untouched.

You pursue its so-called purpose

and the lovely journal is tainted.

I ripped out three-quarters of the pages

just for the high

Every fresh start is a euphoric burst

And so this trite blurb is ready

To start over.

Like small talk to pass time

Apathetic ticking of a tired clock

Never strains to keep a beat

Just harmonizes with empty banter

Each word resonating uselessly

Abounding with promises of meaning

Echoing back heavy sighs

As much as waking up at seven

To overcome self-doubt

Wonder if you’ll ever have the drive

Or if you’ll fall down backwards

And break like a fragile trinket

More importantly, wondering why

How, you’ve met no one obsessed
